Hon. Sunday Karimi, a member of the House of Representatives, has called on the Acting Inspector‑General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate an alleged attack on the convoy of Mr. Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Karimi made the request in a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in Abuja.
Karimi said the alleged incident, which was reported to have occurred on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in Benin City, Edo State, warranted investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.
He said action by police was necessary to uncover the facts surrounding the reported occurrence and to ensure safety for all political actors.
According to statements attributed to Karimi, the alleged attack on Obi’s convoy occurred while the group was moving from the ADC secretariat in Benin City to the residence of a party leader.
Karimi said that assailants were reported to have opened fire on the convoy, causing damage to vehicles but that no fatalities were reported.
He said the matter had been widely discussed in political and public circles. Karimi did not provide independent verification of the reported attack and said law enforcement should investigate the matter.
Karimi urged the Acting Inspector‑General to direct swift police response and full investigation into the alleged incident.
He said that a credible police inquiry would help clarify circumstances and hold accountable any individuals found to be involved, in accordance with the law.
