The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational and intelligence units to the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a violent attack in the area, police officials said on Thursday.
The directive aims to restore calm, strengthen security presence and prevent further attacks in Kaiama and surrounding communities, according to a statement issued by Acting ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The NPF condemned the violent attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, which left 75 people dead, in a statement shared by Hundeyin.
The police also extended condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Kwara State.
Hundeyin said the Nigeria Police Force remains “steadfast in its responsibility to protect lives and property” and will do “everything necessary to guarantee the safety and security of all citizens.”
The IGP’s order involves deploying tactical, operational and intelligence assets to enhance security and support efforts to curb violence in the area, the statement said.
Police officers will work to restore stability and increase visibility in vulnerable communities.
An intensive manhunt has been launched for those responsible for the attack, and authorities said they are mobilising all available resources to identify, apprehend and bring to justice those involved.
The NPF also urged members of the public to remain calm and support security efforts by providing timely and credible information through the nearest police station or established communication channels.
