Dangote Cement Plc has launched a Safety FairPlay Initiative at its Ibese Plant in Ogun State as part of efforts to transform safety behaviour and strengthen its workplace safety culture, company officials said on Thursday.
The programme is set to be extended to all Dangote Cement plants across Nigeria.
The pilot event drew active participation from both management and employees, signalling a shared commitment to safer work practices and behavioural change, according to a corporate statement.
The Safety FairPlay Initiative has been designed to promote a transparent and equitable approach to workplace safety driven by three core pillars: Recognition, Correction (Coaching) and Discipline.
The framework rewards positive safety behaviour, ensures consistent corrective action for at‑risk conduct, and encourages open reporting of incidents, near‑misses and errors.
Mr Anandam Duraisamy, Technical Director of Dangote Cement Plc, said the initiative marks a key milestone in the company’s journey to build a workplace where safety is not just a policy but a shared mindset. “Safety FairPlay is about building trust, consistency, and accountability in how we manage safety,” he said at the launch.
Duraisamy stressed that safety excellence must extend beyond procedures and equipment to include employee attitudes, choices and collective responsibility. He said the effectiveness of the programme depends on all staff embracing safe conduct as a personal commitment.
The Ibese Plant Head of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Mr Elvis Akalusi, applauded management for driving the initiative and noted widespread enthusiasm among workers to adopt the new safety culture.
He affirmed that the programme will be integrated into daily operations with support from all departmental leaders.
Akalusi said the initiative provides tools, coaching and recognition needed to empower employees to make safer decisions on the job. He emphasised that its long‑term success will hinge on collective commitment and active engagement across the plant workforce.
The launch of the Safety FairPlay Initiative in Ogun State reflects Dangote Cement’s broader corporate priorities on employee well‑being, operational resilience and sustainability.
Embedding a strong safety culture is seen as critical to maintaining productivity, reducing workplace incidents and safeguarding employees across the company’s nationwide operations.
Dangote Cement Plc has initiated a Safety FairPlay programme at its Ibese Plant to enhance workplace safety culture and promote responsible conduct.
