The Adamawa State Police Command has begun investigating an acid attack on a teenager in Yola South Local Government Area, police say.
The victim, 17‑year‑old Walid Mohammed, was rushed to a hospital after the incident and is receiving medical care, officials said.
The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the attack happened on January 14, 2026, at Shagari Quarters when Walid was on his way to a mosque. He reportedly ran to the Shagari Division Headquarters in distress, saying someone had sprayed a substance believed to be acid on him.
Nguroje identified the suspect as Idris Hamza, a resident of Shagari, Yola South LGA, and said the teen was taken to the hospital right away. The suspect was also taken into police custody after the complaint, the police spokesperson said.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to lead the probe to make sure the case is thoroughly examined, the statement added. Police did not say what might have caused the attack or whether the suspect has made any statement.
Acid attacks are rare but serious crimes that can cause severe injuries and long‑term harm to victims. A separate acid‑related case in Adamawa reported last year also drew police attention over severe injuries to another victim, though that case involved different circumstances.
Police urged anyone with useful information about the attack to come forward to help investigators, saying public tips are important to solving cases like this. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may be released as police follow up on evidence.
